Newbury Racecourse held its first race in 1905 and has long been one of Britains leading tracks, staging up to 30 days of top class Jumps and Flat racing annually, with at least one raceday in every month of the year.
The highlight of Newburys Jump racing programme is the Hennessy Gold Cup, a handicap chase over an extended three and a quater miles, which usually takes place in late November, and is the longest running commercial sporting sponsorship in the world. With a prize fund of £200,000, "The Hennessy" is one of the most prestigious and sought after prizes in the sport and is the focal point of the bet365 Festival.
On the flat, Newburys high quality programme includes th Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes in May, with the group One race over a mile, worth £350,00. It has been won by many of the greats of the sport, including Frankel in 2012.
The racecourse and its extensive buildings, which are set amidst over 320 acres of picturesque Berkshire countryside, include the Lord Foster designed Grandstand and the Hennessy Restaurant in the Hampshire Stand, and are some of the finest facilities on any racecourse in the country.
