Located just outside Lisburn, Down Royal has a royal history stretching back to 1685 when King James II founded the Down Royal Corporation of Horse Breeders. It is the only racecourse in Northern Ireland to host both flat and National Hunt racing across around 12 fixtures a year.
The Ulster Derby in June is the showpiece flat event, while November’s two-day Champion Chase Festival is the jumping highlight, headlined by the Grade 1 Ladbrokes Champion Chase, a three-mile steeplechase whose roll of honour includes Kauto Star and Don Cossack.
